Welcome to British Literature

These courses are chronological studies of British Literature. We will  travel in time from 500 A.D. to the contemporary period by reading examples of literature from each period.  Writing and reading combined with research and verbal skills will be stressed. Outside readings and vocabulary work will be required.

The Honors class will complete the standard program with additional
readings and selected World Literature selections.  Students will be
exposed to various research forms and writing assignments and activities to challenge their abilities. More reading and independent work is required.

The  first 9 weeks will include the Anglo-Saxon period and the
          Middle Ages.
The second 9 weeks will include the Renaissance and Shakespeare’s
          plays and poetry.
The third 9 weeks will include the Restoration with the Eighteenth
           Century and the Romantic period.
The fourth 9 weeks will include the Victorian and
            Contemporary  periods.

Each nine weeks the student will receive a calendar of the major events
for that time period. Daily review of notes and material should become
a common practice for the student. Preparing for class is important. A
progress report or report card will be sent home every 3 weeks.

If I have not read a book
before, it is, for all intents and purposes, new  to me
whether it was printed yesterday or three hundred
years ago!
