Keyboarding.....A Class Everyone Needs!

Keyboarding is an elective class at Houston High.  It is highly recommended to take this class as a freshman or sophomore student because the skills learned in this class are most useful for other classes in the future.  There are state competencies and a state curriculum for keyboarding.  A syllabus is included with this site.  Students strive for both speed and accuracy.  Timed writings are given beginning with one-minute and advancing to three-minute writings.  Students take writings all semester and are evaluated by a scale (showing rate and error limit) that advances as the weeks advance. The computers used in this lab are Apple computers.  Students will use MicroType Mac software to learn or review the keyboard.  Students will use Microsoft Word software for an introduction to word processing.  During word processing, students will learn to format a MLA paper, a personal business letter, a resume, and other documents.
